My Van Halen Playlist!
In this You Really Got Me guitar lesson video, I will demonstrate how to play this classic Van Halen cover off of their debut album note-for-note.
The tuning Eb tuning, Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb
The intro is instantly recognizable with Eddie playing that classic riff in his own unmistakable style.
The verse section is based off of very simple chords, yet for each verse, Eddie employs a couple of cool fills that can be a bit challenging to play. I will show you each lick note-for-note.
I will go through each section of the song in the order that each appears on the original recording.
That includes Eddie’s awesome guitar solo. This one is short but sweet, with a classic chromatic tapping run and some massive bends and legato playing. Lots of fun!

Hey Carl on the "kill switch" portion of the lead, Eddie actually recorded with a dual humbucker guitar (Les Paul, Explorer?), volume down on the neck pickup, then used the pickup switch for the effect. Also, there's no whammy on the album version of the song. Love your lessons man.

The kill switch thing I have on one of my guitars. I removed a pickup so if I half pull the switch to the spot without a pickup it has this kill switch effect
