XEM CHI TIẾT VIDEO NGAY BÊN DƯỚI

For a detailed explanation, check out the blog post I put together for this lesson:

In this video, I play through 3 variations of the intro (album version from “Go To Heaven”, an studio outtake from Jerry’s solo album “Run for the Roses”, and how Jerry would play it live with the Dead). I also play through Jerry’s rhythm parts for the verse and chorus.

“Alabama Getaway” was first performed by the Grateful Dead on November 4, 1979, at the Civic Center in Providence, Rhode Island. It was a concert perennial in the early 80s before slowly dropping out of the band’s repertoire in June 1989, only to be revived in 1995 for a total of 4 shows.

The Dead played “Alabama Getaway” a total of 141 times, with 88 of those occurring in its first three years (1979-1981). In 1980 alone, they played “Alabama Getaway” 50 of their 86 performances that year.

You can play along to the backing track I created for this song:

You should take a look at mississippi half step 5/25/1977 (richmond va). There is a good recording of it on "celebrating jerry garcia and the days between"

I love this one because it is easier. I was able to play it in one day and make it sound good solo. Ones like Big River were much more difficult for me. I have to first learn it and then build up speed and then work for weeks with a backing track to be able to actually play it and be in time with a rhythm player. it would be cool if you could do some songs where you do the whole song sort of adapted so one person could play it solo. I definitely know it is great to see exactly what Jerry and Bob are playing but also for like Help>Slipnot I am trying to blend the Jerry part and the Bob part and come in on the lyrics right and it is quite challenging…. Thanks for all your great efforts. Being a fellow Youtuber, i know it takes a lot of time..

Thank you for sharing this. You have no idea how appreciated your instruction is. I still go back to your videos on ABB to pickup on more techniques as I improve.

Great lesson. I love that you do theses because its hard to find good Grateful Dead tabs. Maybe you can find the time to put a lesson out for Morning Dew?! I know I am asking a lot but the if you do find the time maybe you can do the whole song with the solo.

  5. Jon Wilson says:

I really like this new format; it's really good for the guitarists that can pick things up quickly and don't necessarily want to watch a 30 minute video. Personally, I would still watch those too because I appreciate the level of detail in your lessons.
