  1. Shayne Mcquillan says:

People forget Gnr loved Aussie music.. Look at Rose Tattoo.. so what if they got inspiration from other artists and if Aus Crawl haven't complained then what does it matter

  2. Andi Benson says:

Probably one of the nicest things about music is it's ability to take you away to another place; either a memory or a fantasy, or a combination of both. For me, I was a big fan of the Crawl when I was back in high school. About a decade later when Sweet Child came out, I didn't really see the connection straight away, but it's nice to listen to either song from both great bands and fantasize about a young Slash and buddies getting stoned and flicking through a bunch of little know Australian albums, then discovering Oz Crawl.

  3. Guitar Lab says:

Two songs with a similar beat in mixolydian. Of course they sound alike. Like 1000 other songs. People love whipping themselves into a frenzy over nothing.

  4. The Big Bologna says:

I’m not a musician, I hear similarities but perhaps someone with a better ear and understanding can find similarities in the structure, arrangements, and all that.

So I’m in no position to say if it was a rip off.

But Sweet Child o’ Mine brought me here and this song, both songs, are AMAZING.

Going to listen to this while I cruise today, and I’m so glad I found a new band.

  5. Roberto Vasquez says:

Does bear a striking musical resemblance. Have you ever heard the lead singer if the band Nazareth? Listen people… artists, in general take a bit of this and a bit of that from their liking. If an artist capitalizes on their influences, so be it.

  6. Carty B says:

This chord progression isn’t terribly uncommon, but it isn’t as flexible as your typical 1, 4, 5, 6 progression. And if such a song happened upon a similar tempo, the vocal melody that both songs follow closely is the one that makes the most straight forward sense. It’s three chords in the verse and three in the chorus with the only change being an A. That change makes too much sense not to do if your verse is D, C, G.
    D, C, G, then A, C, D. These go together like peas and carrots.

There is only so much that would work as a melody over that, if you didn’t want to stray too far from a pop melody. It’s fairly inevitable that you’d get a couple songs that come close here.

  7. Jared Ahn says:

Heard of the similiarity (influence) on Sweet Child o' Mine, and started singing along to it. It was only after more than half into the song that I noticed it sung in English

  8. Brian Bailey says:

Perhaps "Sweet Child o' Mine" has a few similarities to "Unpublished Critics," I definitely hear it, but "Unpublished Critics" opening guitar riff is very similar to "Nite Flights" by The Walker Brothers released 3 years before this song.
