  1. Abbey’s 14 says:

    Yeah, ha-ha

Finally, someone let me out of my cage

Now time for me is nothing 'cause I'm counting no age

    Now I couldn't be there

    Now you shouldn't be scared

    I'm good at repairs

    And I'm under each snare

    Intangible

Bet you didn't think so I command you to

    Panoramic view

Look, I'll make it all manageable

    Pick and choose

    Sit and lose

    All you different crews

    Chicks and dudes

Who you think is really kickin' tunes?

Picture you gettin' down in a picture tube

    Like you lit the fuse

    You think it's fictional?

    Mystical? Maybe

    Spiritual

Hero who appears in you to clear your view when you're too crazy

    Lifeless

To those the definition for what life is

    Priceless

To you because I put you on the hype shit

    You like it?

Gun smokin' righteous with one toke

    You're psychic among those

    Possess you with one go

    The essence, the basics

    Without, did you make it?

    Allow me to make this

    Child-like in nature

    Rhythm

You have it or you don't, that's a fallacy

    I'm in them

    Every sprouting tree

    Every child of peace

    Every cloud and sea

    You see with your eyes

I see destruction and demise (that's right)

    Corruption in disguise

    From this fuckin' enterprise

Now I'm sucked into your lies

Through Russel, not his muscles but percussion he provides

    For me as a guide

Y'all can see me now 'cause you don't see with your eye

    You perceive with your mind

    That's the inner

So I'ma stick around with Russ' and be a mentor

Bust a few rhymes so motherfuckers remember where the thought is

    I brought all this

So you can survive when law is lawless (right here)

Feelings, sensations that you thought was dead

No squealing, remember that it's all in your head

Y'know, everyone (Albarn included) always talks about "Beetlebum" being in the spirit of 'it's-a-drug-song-but-we-snuck-it-by-you-quick/or-IS-it??' songs, like "There She Goes" by the La's, and while that song belongs in that category–apart from just being a bloody great tune–I actually think THIS song, the hook at least, is an even better example, in terms of putting something right in front of people's eyes, but somehow disguising it at the same time. I don't think I've ever heard a better lyrical representation of the feeling that comes over you when you're strung out, sick etc, and you finally manage to cop and get the stuff in your hands, than "I ain't happy…but I'm feelin' glad". At first glance it might seem like not much of a distinction, but the specific sensation of still realizing your existence is miserable–a human equivalent of being trapped in a hamster wheel–but still feeling, in the moment, so PLEASED to be holding the cure to any and all of that there in your hands, is a very particular feeling…and he captured it in just a few lines. Which, of course, are followed up by "I got sunshine / In a bag…" all of which went completely over my (and probably a lot of other general listeners) head when this record came out and I was like 13/14. In fact, bc this video was so popular and played all the time, we made a habit of making these silly 'kid jokes' adding that as a suffix to everything, as in, like: "Oh shit, did you remember to bring those sandwiches??" "Yeah! I got them…IN A BAGGG!" Lol. We were idiots

played this song two years ago in a talent show for my school with my drums since it was my year until I graduate to middle school. The teachers didn't like it, but basically 90% of the students recognized the song and started singing along. Most fun moment I've ever had since.
