In 1895, crowds flooded Coney Island to see America’s first-ever looping coaster: the Flip Flap Railway. But its thrilling flip caused cases of severe whiplash, neck injury and even ejections. Today, coasters can pull off far more exciting tricks and do it safely. Brian D. Avery investigates what rollercoasters are doing to your body and how they’ve managed to get scarier and safer at the same time.

Ah, so thats why I get a slight gag feeling when going down a steep hill on a rollercoaster mid screaming-

But I always feels like the only one who does it :/

  2. Candela Lopez says:

I went on the incredicoaster twice in a row, and I felt like fainting as soon as I got off the second time. I felt terrible until I went on the cars ride and I guess the adrenaline helped calm me down somehow? But the entire time I was in line, I swore I would fall on my face, I was so drowsy and dizzy. And that’s not even a crazy coaster!!! 💀😂

I like rollercoasters but i personally can't handle them. Last time i was on one i had trouble breathing. So i got off and waited while friends enjoyed it. Didn't want to kill the fun and good time they were having, but again i just can't handle it.

And I'm sitting on a bench in Coney Island wondering where did my baby go?
The fast times, the bright lights, the merry go

I used to love roller coasters, then a few years ago I rode Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens WIlliamsburg and experienced gray-outs every time the coaster hit a trough. It was pretty frightening as a grayish circle closed on my vision. I had to look up what was happening. I rode a significantly smaller and slower coaster later and it happened again. I haven't ridden a roller coaster since. 🙁

  7. Cole Tanner says:

12Gs in the late 1800"s?..I'd have to read up on that one to believe it.. everyone would be passed out and some would be dead.. maybe more than some

  8. Clara Di Paolo says:

You know, it’s just great to think that the next time I go to an amusement park, I’m going to experience whiplash and nausea, then be ejected from my seat. Thanks, Ted Ed.

  9. Thomas Nativo says:
