Lets say you got the MBA for 6 months now, and is at 100% ssd condition… does not make it like almost 50 year’s estimate functional time? I can not see why all the fuss about it.

  2. Gil Claudio says:

This is a good solution for Chrome (et al). I have an external drive for all my files that is always plugged to the computer, so I rarely write in my internal storage. For Firefox, I was able to set it to write the cache files in this external drive, and no files are written in the internal drive. I could not do it for Chrome (et al) browsers. So this video is really helpful for Chrome (et al) browsers.

I am not doing much (no video or photo editing), and after 3 months and 20 days of use, it's already used 46.7TB. I've started to closely monitor the usage, and the Swap Used under Activity Monitor was showing 0 MB this morning which was all good. But after being away for half an hour, and sleep kicked in, upon resume the M1 Mac, Swap Used is now 600MB!!

Looking at the KernelTask written in Disk tab, it was 150MB prior to sleep. After resume, it's written 4GB. What's going on?
I'll try not to sleep next and see.

Some really good info presented in an easy to follow format, I'll be back to apply this when I (finally!) get my hands on an M1X Macbook Pro.

And also… during working for various companies in the UK for some 40 years and dealing with many tech support people, I've never heard the word cache pronounced 'caysh' like that before. I've always heard it pronounced 'cash' here in the UK. Interesting how that differs even between the UK and Australia.

Created Tech, thank you for a lot of knowledge from your channel. You're doing a great job.
If someone is interested, I hope to temporarily fix the macbook m1 memory swap problem when using Lightroom Classic.
I checked at home, before this step the memory conversion usage was absurdly high, reaching 10 GB at the very start of Lightroom Classic. Any edition and export was the amount of about 30 GB for one photo, it is easy to count how much data is saved for the photographer. In one day, when I edited a dozen photos, almost 1TB of data was saved for several hours.
For me it helped disabling GPU support in Lightroom Classic settings. I have tested and the editing speed has not suffered, it is just as convenient to edit photos. Export is just as fast. But nothing goes into SWAP memory, which is satisfying to me. All parameters and temperature in the activity tracker are good. I hope Adobe will fix this problem. For now, this is how I will use Lightroom Classic.

Many thanks. Because of your video, I fixed the issue with monthly terabytes write to my ssd. I also found that a process named "bird" was writing 30 terabytes to my ssd from the date of purchase – 5 months. This process is associated with ICloude Drive and I had to abandon uploading the document folder to the cloud, but this is more a plus than a minus.

  7. sean lim says:

if i dont want to do that to maintain eser experience, will having 16G RAM , solve the SSD issue cause by browser disk caching? my question is to get higher ram or higher SSD ?

  8. Robert Follis says:

I only use Safari and My M1 MBP 8/256 has used 21% of SSD life in 5 months writing 258TB to disk. This means the SSD will die at just under 2 years which is unacceptable. Apple are going to have huge warranty problems.

  9. Moinak Kumar says:

hi guys! for the disabling on chrome I am seeing a black screen with nothing when I actually copy the command on my tab. can anyone help me out please! would be really helpful. thanks!

  10. Quang says:

Can you have a video detailing the "other" section of the ssd drive and how to see what files can be deleted in the "other" section? It's increasing day by day and I don't know how to clean it up without any other consequences. Thank you

  11. David Moreno says:

I don’t if you already replied this, but what’s the stand you use next to your monitor, and how do you keep the MacBook close without going to sleep?

Thanks a lot for your videos ❤️

  12. S. C. says:

I think that people thinks too much. Because shall iPhone has the same issue to read/write data on its SSD drive? My friend watched the video on the iPhone 6 (32GB) every day, and it had been 5 years, no problem at all but the screen became dark. During this period, he only replaced the batteries several time, until purchased the SE for replacement last year.

  13. Barbaros Dragut says:

If you are using safari and watching videos on youtube it dont even swap i got a mac pro m1 16gig its all nonense about memory swap watching youtube videos or netflix al it was 19mb after a couple hours. Use only safari and you will be safe.

  14. amirmoheb fotouhi says:

hi i did turn it off on my chrome on my mbp and it's ok for now but my kernel task has a lot of written memory and like right know i was on safari watching Netflix and it has almost 44 GB of written memory and i'm really worried is there any way to control this?
