I think it’s helpful to remember when doing negotiations, the client doesn’t want to spend the time and effort to find another artist when they’ve already found you, so they do already have an incentive to work with you to find an agreement.

It’s been so much better for me to walk away from underpaid gigs and use that time to develop my portfolio or simply be available for better work. Sometimes it feels tempting to take on an underpaid project or badly written contract, but often I’ve literally lost money on “paid” work after my costs especially opportunity costs.

Hey Kendyll, thank you for another super informative video! I'm looking forward to the next one very much because that's something I have the most trouble with. In some of your previous videos I heard a great advice about what to do when you have no idea now much you should charge (ask the client if he has a budget in mind) but when I pulled that wild card recently I got a quote which was unbelievably low. How to get out of something like that? My answer to the client was that I would be able to work on that project for a fee that is 5x larger than that one and never heard from them again 😀 And felt like a lunatic for telling them how much I would charge.
