| Lyrics of new songs.

Verse 1
When time was flying & i was just tryna get in
I made a mix if she came over at 6, she never did
(in this case, made a mix refers to how i made a small playlist of songs she liked in the event she took my invitation to come over one day, an ultimately useless endeavor, she never texted back. but ‘made a mix’ refers to my mix-up and misinterpretation of her interest to hang out again. i got my hopes up and ultimately put down. homage to eric b and rakim in helping pioneer the multisyllabic rhyme used here.)
Last night when we met thought i felt a connec-tion
(surface level, it just describes the how i met ali. it was one night and i felt a connection. more importantly, this line has parallels to the later verse. (hindsight catch) in this scenario both i and layth only had a few hours to talk to the girl. the line also spams the ending t sound.)
We talked about some stupid shit i feel i shouldn’t mention
(that leads into the next line, describing the ongoing banter. we got along well and conversation flowed easily with just about every topic, even the small talk. also spamming the starting s sound (like i did here as well))
Had funny banter like sandler kinda sad we didn’t click
(reference to the witty banter traded back and forth throughout the time frame of a movie (2 or so odd hours) and similar to (‘kinda’) the formulaic sandler comedy film click. it was a shame we didn’t click, we got along well)
Cause i was into her but she didn’t want me
(the interaction was ultimately one sided, as i enjoyed her company and wanted to see her again, but she did not feel the same. play on word ‘but’, she had a great one)
Looking for fruit rolled up in the wrong tree
(many trees bear fruit. also, reference to fruit rollup candy and how i initially only saw her as eye candy, but gradually grew to appreciate her personality, which took more effort (hence the example of climbing a tree). also, we both smoked weed, and the rolling up line refers to a blunt)
Now i’m the only one back on my feet
(through the conversation it was clear she was dealing with problems. i met her right after the shroom trip, so i was just beginning my efforts of learning about myself more deeply. even though i have fallen from the ‘tree’ hard, i quickly recovered and moved on)
Oh woe is me when i see her
(despite my best efforts, advice and intentions, i still feel a twinge of sadness when i see her out and about, wondering why it didn’t go anywhere. i recognize the triviality of the whole thing, which is why the line is meant ironically)
Peeping the socials and insta feed
(i checked out her social media footprint on instagram after our meeting. i thought about our conversation (socials) at length later)
Where she showing & hoeing off within a week
(after browsing her pictures, i noticed she partied a lot and had typical gratuitous shots showing off her body. this turned me off. also a play on the phrase showing off. what she chose to show off (her body) made her a hoe, and ultimately discouraged the thought of a relationship. can’t wife these hoes)
Made that mistake once too many to be
(the rational part of my mind is speaking here, as i’ve noticed this same thing happen before and had to work through it. also the start of a fun counting chain down the verse, starting with once.)
Just a coincidence you wait and see
(the rash part of the brain takes over and begins to wander, saying this girl would be different. marks the start of the breakdown of the narrator’s psyche and transition into the second perspective of layth or the stereotypical frat guy. cracks in logic begin to appear)
Second time now i’m free
(narrator regains control and repeats the idea of learning from past experience in this case. second part of the chain: second time. also a play on seconds as a unit of time)
Say it a third time did you hear me?
(i am still regaining control of the brain, emphasizing yet again that i should take my own advice and listen to reason. the rash part of the brain is making so much noise, it is hard to hear the voice of reason. last part of the counting chain: third time)
Fuck the flakes and their fake friends
(fun line of alliteration and genuinely good advice. people are similar to those they surround themselves with. if someone is indecisive (a ‘flake’), chances are their friends are too. a lot of people are flakes, so if possible, fuck them all anyway.)
Can’t deal with all of that shit
(a flaky person causes a lot of trouble for those dealing with them, i have no patience for this sort of thing)
Drama for day one entourages i’m riding with
(reference to donny drama from the hbo show entourage. there were 4 main characters, continuing the counting sequence: four. drama is confident and doesn’t care about external opinions, i am this person in my friend groups. also, the friend groups i have had for many years ‘day ones’ are splitting due to circumstance and it is difficult to get everyone together. hence the separation of them (day ones). also a reference to how the track was made. originally i had the next verse at 11 bars, to go with the day ones theme. for symmetry, i added another to better illustrate the typical lifestyle.)

12
Puffing on the cool whip, pull up in the new whip!
(loaded line, brand of whipped cream. cool whip is meant to refer to a medley of drugs consumed by the ‘cool’ frat boys: weed (people smoke weed in their cars, and inhaling vapors feels like a cool whip in the mouth and then gets warmer incredibly fast (like a new car pulling up) causing you to cough.), coke (cool whip is incredibly white like cocaine, and the drug can be smoked (puffing – as crack) and is sometimes done in cars) and e-vapes (cool whip sounds like a crazy flavor name, and almost seems it would taste like a popular juul flavor, mint (cool)). also, ‘whip its’ is a popular slang for nitrous oxide, done recreationally by some of the frat. braggadocio line, and stupid enough that it could believably be said by an average frat guy). displays wealth of many of the frat guys, they are able to afford a new car and are used to it (‘the new whip’, and their likely simple desription of it to family and friends – model and specs are unknown, the car is just cool and new.) also a dig at their slang and simple way of talking, likely from their drug and party lifestyle. also a reference to many of the frat’s gym rat lifestyle (pull-ups are a popular exercise, and layth even had a pull up bar)
Catching a cold and catching a case
(this line marks the original second part of the verse, a similar situation told from a laythian frat guy perspective. notice the shift in language used, showing the differences between the two in thinking and speaking. this, like some others following it, is a line referring to cold liquor (implied it’s a beer – since they are often referred to as cold brews among frat circles) and come in cases. it is implied he has drunk a case worth. due to this aforementioned intoxication, on one of his nights out layth slept with an underage girl (catching a case))
You tell the boys that i just can’t relate
(layth and will talked garbage about me to the frat boys because i did not fit in with their drugged up and fucked up lifestyle. i wasn’t pulling chicks. i legitimately cannot relate to fucking a 16 year old)
You fucked a six last night & thot she was eight
(a slight continuation of the counting sequence: six and eight. also referring to age. the girl was 16 but layth believed she was of legal age (18). a play on the numbers rating of attractiveness. alcohol will make people seem more attractive than what they are.)
The drink’ll do that and it’s getting late
(alcohol’s effects on beauty are mentioned again here. combined with the lateness of the hour and the fact that few in the party scene really want to go home alone after a long night, this girl has settled for someone like layth to go home with)
Looking for soul food pour up a plate
(this line refers to how even under the facade, layth is looking for something more than casual sex. he is secretly looking for connection and purpose in life and simply does not want to be alone. however, this line is tongue in cheek. ‘pour up a plate’ makes it clear layth can’t see past the alcohol and is unsuccessful in the personal mission he didn’t know he had)
You’re not the only one feeling this way
(many other people crave connection and inclusion but go about it the wrong way, depending on substances and alcohol to fight their loneliness)
In this rare moment we’re one and the same
(a slight continuation on the soul food imagery. rare is a way to cook steak, which is sometimes jokingly referred to as soul food. more importantly, layth and i are similar in that we both want human connection but go about it in radically different and unique ways: hence the line one and the same)
One question left, and that’s all i can say
(at this moment, in his current inebriated state, layth’s mind is fixated on one thing and one thing only, bedding the girl he has brought home with him. this line is where he begins talking to her.)
Can i fuck tonight, tomorrow or today?
(this line simulates the effects of alcohol: slurred speech and incoherence. nevertheless, he is persistent in wanting something immediately. this line is posed to the girl he has brought home)
Ok i can wait but i want a little taste
(the girl’s answer is never given. it is assumed the guy has been rejected after all. he has not achieved his goal, and gives a half-hearted acceptance of this fact. he asks the girl for something, anything. at this point he is desperate.)
I’ll be quick about it come back to my place
(a blatant ignorance of the girl’s rejection and another last attempt to hook up for the night. he says it will be quick and no trouble for the girl sine she doesn’t have to stay. this is common among frat/hookup focused circles to try and wear down her ‘defenses’. sadly, it often succeeds. this last line is perhaps the most ironic, she already is at his place, but decided she doesn’t want him. contrasting the first verse, layth doesn’t win in the end and is ultimately still drunk, alone and in a nearly catatonic state. even though the narrator still has problems with his relationship to others in the story, he is fine, having walked away with an experience and more knowledge.)
