hey chums! on weekend wankshop 180, uncle ben eller here is going to learn you all one of my favorite guitar solos from the 80’s, Love Song by Tesla! I put up a cover video the other day and wanted to make good on my promise to you all, as always. This solo is so tasty and melodic, there’s a lot of killer note targeting happening here. As you learn the licks, learn what chords they are being played over too! Frank Hannon really did a killer job putting this thing together. So many great hooks and killer bends in this thing.

I'm one of those guys who got a guitar at 16yrs old, got really into it for several years then did other things for a while. Over the last 35 yrs I'll get back into it for a lil while then take another long break. Saw this video and yea I had to pick it up again lol. Huge Tesla fan and need to learn this. This is great music. I am so glad that I quit playing fast guitar solos exclusively and started to play and work on these types of solos.
Learning solos with "phrasing" and "rests" molded me into a much better player. This was the first solo of this type that I learned.
I still love the fast stuff too. Warren De Martini, Lynch, ect. that, unlike many others, have great phrasing in their playing despite being relatively fast players. But this is still different and important.

Great pick here Ben. Even though I was a death metal guy back then I still recall hearing this solo and thinking it was really well written. If chicks were actually impressed by solos then this would be a real panty dropper!
IV been playing this solo for 3 years now, and your makes so much more sense, Thannks for the help i sound so much better keep up the hard work. your an awesome guitar player and well informed.
i suck ass at solos, but we have the same line 6 ax212. i bought mine in 2001 iirc for $1100 from guitar friend. it still works perfect to this day. i have mine hooked up to 2 – 4×12 cabs in stereo. sounds so fucking awesome when i play what i know. guns n roses rythem sounds so good as does many other crap i play. i just wish i knew the solo shit. ty sir for the video.

Hi Ben! Do you play to a backing track? Is it available? Would be nice to learn those solos you teach and play them to a backing track. Play along is cool too, but then the original music kind of helps out to sound better than I actually play 🙂
Pretty simple overall but I like the melody and I especially LOVE the bend+ringout+arpeggio bit at 2:18 and 2:50 – definitely using that style in my playing from now on! Thanks Uncle Ben
